Carollyne Sinclaire Artist
Capturing the Beauty of Colour, Light and Shadow

Art Log

(posted on 19 Mar 2025)

Greetings!

I would say I have fully recovered from my total knee replacement and daily I am on the bike at home and regularly walking the riverwalk. It's so good to feel well!

When the pain abated I couldn't wait to paint again!  I imagined colour and lots of it before my eyes.  Today I am sharing with you my brand new--not even dry yet--pieces.  Each is inspired by a visit to the grocery store and shiny, reflective surfaces.  I hope you are as thrilled with these as I am.

Blues and Oranges

Blues and Oranges

Normally I don't buy oranges, too messy, possibly bitter but these Spanish oranges were perfectly plump and appeared to be full of sweetness. They did not disappoint! When fruit is this beautiful I must paint it! To create my artist's set-up I found my blue vase, a velvet cloth and some cotton to hang over a cardboard box. When I shone the light at the oranges in the colander I thought the subject could paint itself. Painting the metal on the colander required close observation and I am delighted with the result.

Oil on deep exhibition canvas 12 X 12 X 1.5" with the sides painted as a continuation of the painting. $400. Shipping extra.

Apples and Pewter with Silks

I brought the Cosmic Crisp apples into the kitchen, then washed and polished them to a gloss. As I held each one to the light, they resembled gems in a jewellery store window with their ruby, amethyst, topaz and amber hues. How might I best display this grouping for a painting the way a jeweller sets stones in precious metals? I draped them with an Egyptian and  Thai shawls on a pewter platter from Mexico, with my stainless oil dispenser to reflect their dazzling hues. Part of a series on reflective light and surfaces.

Frame included in black wood. 10 X 20 X 3/4" oil on canvas. $550. Shipping extra.
