Carollyne Sinclaire Artist
Capturing the Beauty of Colour, Light and Shadow

Art Log

As most of you have probably realized, the spelling of my name looks unique. Unfortunately, it's not. There are a number of Carollyne Sinclaire's with exactly the same spelling. More than you'd think. When one with the same name, same spelling who banked at the same institution I did passed away, her husband closed the account. Due to a clerical error, my account was closed instead and I was locked out of getting any money for two months until I notified the bank manager that I was not dead but very much alive. And then there is the matter of another Carollyne Sinclaire in Vancouver, a real estate agent and photographer, and this is where the plot thickens even more. I am pre-empted from websites searches because of her mighty websites. So I have re-named myself and I hope you think it's apt:

At a recent art fair I stood for two days in the Okanagan heat and didn't sell a single painting. Disheartening, but these things happen. A week later I received a phone call from a woman with whom I had spoken at the fair. She asked me to visit her orchard and paint plein air. While I didn't paint there, I did go and take photos and had the chance to speak to her when, unexpectedly, she asked me if I would paint a pair of her shoes from decades earlier. I could see how much it meant to her and I don't like to disappoint. We agreed on the commission and here's is the result. Since then she has offered me two more commissions. So you just never know when you participate in an art fair and don't sell something immediately.

SOLD! I am thrilled that three of my paintings were purchased by a couple from Calgary. Many thanks to the Osoyoos Art Gallery for exhibiting and selling my work! ('Red and Green Pepper', 'Three of a Kind', 'Two Delicious')

Many thanks again to the Osoyoos Art Gallery for exhibiting and selling my large painting, entitled 'Oliver Theatre'.

The Oliver Theatre is one of those small-town movie theatres with old-fashioned decor throughout, a great sound system and, like so many movie houses, a place where people have courted, fallen in love, been entertained and escaped reality. Many thanks to the new local owners! I hope they find a special place in their home or business for the painting.

This 6 X 6" painting sold today at the Osoyoos Art Gallery to a former instructor at the Alberta College of Art. Needless to say, I'm thrilled and very grateful to the Osoyoos Art Gallery. Please join me in a happy dance!

Many thanks to the Osoyoos Art Gallery for allowing me to exhibit my 6" square acrylic on board painting entitled, 'All This Could Be Yours'. The new international buyers, Wendy and Ed, will be finding just the right place in their home for the convertible VW Beetle image. It's interesting how often a purchase is like love at first sight.

I photographed this little Beetle, similar to one I had for many years, at Dodi's Auto Sales in Eureka, California, a strange auto seller, more a wrecking lot then auto dealer, where I shot a number of Westphalias, some of which are on my website gallery. It is always thrilling for the artist to sell a painting directly to customers.

My paintings are also exhibited at Montakarn Winery, Bordertown Winery, Faustino's Cidery, and will be exhibited sale at Art in the Desert at the Desert Center on July 16 and 17, as well as at Noble Ridge Winery's 'Vine and Dine' on July 23and at The Spirit of the Desert Show and Sale at Spirit Ridge Winery at Nk'mip Resort.

Phthalo blue green, cadmium yellow light, quinacridone magenta and titanium white are the only hues I used for this colour palette and what a range they make. Still lots of work to do: more leaves to paint, more veins to fill in, highlights and low lights, the finessing takes me the longest. You can see my little bead box of paints which I started in Patti Mollica's 'Fast, Loose and Bold' workshop in Carmel last October, my little homemade chart of colour possibilities with these 3 hues and white, colour wheel at the ready, a few brush favorites, a jar of Golden polymer and one of open medium. The light flows in, the hours pass--bliss!

I'll be participating in the Burrowing Owl Winery show from April 27th to December 2016.
