I brought the Cosmic Crisp apples into the kitchen, then washed and polished each one to a gloss. They resembled gems in a jewellery store window with their ruby, amethyst, topaz and amber hues. Of course, I wanted to paint them. How might I best display this grouping the way a jeweller sets stones in precious metals? I draped them with an Egyptian and a Thai shawls on a pewter platter from Mexico, with my stainless oil dispenser to reflect their dazzling hues. Part of a series on reflective light and surfaces.
Frame included in black wood. 10 X 20 X 3/4" oil on canvas.
