Adrift, the Yellow Canoe' sold from Picture This Custom Framing and Gallery to an interior designer as her clients.   I am so very pleased.  Many thanks go to Peggy, the gallery owner and artist.  

In Penticton in a vintage store I found a pair of 1950's glamour shoes with long silvery ankle straps and wondered about where they had been worn, for what occasion and by whom.  I never find titles easy to select but this one emerged in the final stages after many other variations had been entertained.  When I eliminated the idea of a satin dress in folds dropped on the ground and turned to a soft shadow, the iridescence just whispered, "Twinkle Toes--call me Twinkle Toes."

I haven't posted for a while with few excuses--but I have been painting, just haven't taken any photos yet.  However, I am very pleased to announce that Picture This! Custom Framing and Gallery in Penticton has arranged my new (and former) paintings into this display.  When you're in Penticton, please drop in and see the displays.

There is something about those purples in an eggplant along with their shiny skins that I find very compelling.  Of course I had to buy them--not to cook right away--but to paint.  In my fabric stash I found a Guatemalan Shawl from Huehuetenango and my faded Matisse-inspired tablecloth for backdrops--very different schemes.  Now they are painted and I can't decide if I should make the eggplant parmesan or the ratatouille.  What do you think?

Each 8 sq. in. acrylic on 1.5" wooden cradle board is prepared with the finest materials. No need for framing with deep cradle board.

Not quite sugar plums, instead these are plumcots but because the pointy end of these hybridized apricots married to  plums isn't on display I'll just call them 'Plums in Stainless'. This is another painting inspired by a visit to a local orchard where the owners grow many varieties of organic fruit.  

I've always wanted to paint metals but I haven't had the occasion yet to do anything as large as the stainless bowl.  Not quite sure if the reflected pinks are too bright, I'll live with it a few days before I change them or varnish.

More than just animals, both of these creatures are dearly loved and domesticated.  The rooster I spotted when we were in Cuba on a cultural exchange, our visit in this case the King Ranch, where our guide lived and raised his Cubalaya Rooster, said to be one of the largest breeds in the world.  Feathers are a first for me and I really enjoyed painting them.

Our dear neighbours, Bobbie and Paddy, have cats.  Each has its own personality and this one seems fixated on something in the foreground, very close to you!  Get ready for a pounce.  Painting the softest of fur coats with its multiple hues and values was a joyous challenge. How distinctively Okanagan are the soft fruits. I was introduced to the plumcot this summer upon invitation by the owner of Sunset Orchards in Osoyoos to come visit and see her fruit. The plumcot is a heart-shaped hybrid composed of, as you might suspect, an apricot and a plum. All the bloom of a plum, all the succulence of an

apricot, the bite of a plum, it sings with flavour, a true marriage of the fruit, the true taste of summer

Acrylic on cradle board prepared to the highest standards (8 sq." X 1.5", 20 sq. cm. X 4 cm.) As the paintings are done on cradle board there is no need to frame them. Wired, ready to hang and view until you can try a plumcot yourself next summer.

I am thrilled to be represented by Peggy Stel's Picture This! I have very happy memories of visiting my father who took up gardening and bread-making after a lifetime of  a demanding career  In late summer free from the cares of the work-world he would take me out to the tomato patch and let me choose a few ripe ones, and then he'd slice his cooling home-made bread, a tomato and then slather on the mayonnaise, before dashing on the salt and pepper.  Nothing, and I mean nothing,  could taste better than freshly-picked tomatoes on warm homemade bread.  Dad would stand by proudly as I enjoyed the snack like none other.  Now the only problem is which to choose.
